Overview of Mexican Freight Railway System
The study included the analysis of the Mexican rail system (general situation, connectivity, markets served, concessions and force, investments, fees), International Benchmarking, legal and regulatory framework, conclusions and areas of opportunity.The study presents a comprehensive diagnosis of the rail freight system in Mexico by 2013, considering the movement of loads, connectivity, service levels and regulation and develop recommendations on possible regulatory improvements, promotion and improvement of interconnections and tariff aspects.
The scope of the study included a broad diagnosis of the Mexican railway system and comparison with other systems in the world, mainly from the US, considering:
- Traffic Volumes
- Ton-kilometers transported
- Markets Served
- Service levels
- Network levels investment
- Regulatory framework
Interconnections, interlinealidad, service levels and rates: the main problems of the system were analyzed. The current Mexican railway system and areas of opportunity regulatory framework was synthesized.
